Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today dedicated the Snehrashmi Botanical garden, which is built at a cost of Rs 6.85 Cr, in Surat. He also laid foundation of the ambitious ‘Tapi River Front Project, which is likely to be completed at a cost of Rs 44 Cr. Riding in Lake ferry-boat, Shri Modi cherished the splendor of the Botanical garden, which is spread over 33 thousand square meters.
Guardian Minister of Surat district, Mangubhai Patel, Panchayat Minister Narottam Patel, and Municipal Commissioner S Aparna accompanied the Chief Minister. CM planted sapling of Saptaparni plant at the garden.
As many as 888 species of plants are found at the garden, which spans over 1, 40,695 sq mts. It serves special incentives to those who are pursuing studies in botany. Plans are afoot to develop a ‘medicinal plant nursery’ at the garden. It will also educate the masses about botany.
A versatile project, River Front is aiming to protect the flood affected zone, besides beautification of the 54 hectare river front area. As many as 7800 slum-dwellers are relocated by providing them the dwelling-units costing of Rs 131 Cr.
Besides other entertainment facilities, River Front is to offer the Terrace-Plaza, Green Zone, water bodies and many other attractions to visitors.
