Shri Modi asks people to embrace drip irrigation for agriculture growth

At a programme held by Uttar Dashkroi Kadva Patidar Samaj Sudhar Mandal, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi appealed to the people not to entertain feticide and said that the birth of a girl child should be a matter of pride in the family. He also asked the people to embrace drip irrigation practices in agriculture.

The Chief Minister was invited to the programme as a Guest of Honor. He inaugurated the cultural hall and a community hall in Kudasan on Gandhinagar- Ahmedabad road, which have been built with generous donations of Kadva Patidar families. He also named the buildings of Vadilal Dahyabhai Patel Vidhyavihar.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that collective strength is a major boon that can drive societies to newer heights. He gave the example of Lord Krishna and said that while he could have lifted the Govardhan Parvat on his own, he preferred to do so with support of the help of society. Similarly, Shri Modi said that the mantra of the Gujarat Government remains ‘Sauno Saath, Sauno Vikas’ (All together, growth for all).

Shri Modi spoke about Gujarat’s landmark initiative of dedicating 600 MW power to the nation. He said such initiatives will save tones of coal a will rid the environment of CO2 emissions. He envisioned a time when along with the Sun Temple at Modhera, people would also visit Charanka to pray their respects to the Sun God. He also expressed happiness that the project was completed in a span of a year.

The Chief Minister stated that on the occasion of Akha Teej, Gujarat will dedicate to the nation a unique initiative of generating solar power from on top of canals. Shri Modi said such a practice had never been adopted anywhere in the world. Giving details of the initiative, he said that a kilometer would generate 1 MW electricity and due to it being on top of canals, not only would the issue of land be sorted but also there would be water conservation up to 1 crore litres per year! He added that special care was taken to keep these projects close to the villages so that transmission loss is minimized.

On the occasion, Shri Modi urged the community and the people of North Gujarat to embrace drip irrigation in agrarian practices. He gave the example of Banaskantha district where drip irrigation brought a giant leap in the lives of the farmers, even leading to a record of 87 tones potatoes being produced by one farmer there. He also reminded them that their expenses in embracing it would be minimal as the Government is paying for it.

Shri Modi asked the community members to take extraordinary measures to save the girl child and prevent feticide. He said we should be proud of a girl child rather than kill it. He reminded those present that girls were consistently outshining boys be it in examinations or even sports. He gave the example of a couple with 4 sons who had to move to old age homes and contrasted it with a couple with 2 daughters who always took care of them.

He congratulated the Patidar Samaj for the good work they were doing and sought blessings from Umiya Mata as well.

BJP National Vice President Shri Purushottam Rupala, Cabinet Minister Shri Nitin Patel, Shri Rambhai Patel and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
