ഇന്ന് മേജർ ധ്യാൻചന്ദിന്റെ ജന്മദിനമാണെന്ന് നമുക്ക് ഏവർക്കും അറിയാമല്ലോ. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയ്ക്കായി ഈ ദിനം ദേശീയ കായിക ദിനമായി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവ് ഇപ്പോൾ എവിടെയാണെങ്കിലും സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നുണ്ടാകും എന്ന് ഞാൻ വിചാരിക്കുന്നു. എന്തെന്നാൽ ലോകത്തിനുമുന്നിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഹോക്കി വിളംബരം ചെയ്തത് ധ്യാൻചന്ദിന്റെ കാലത്തെ ഹോക്കി ആയിരുന്നു. ഏകദേശം 41 വർഷങ്ങൾക്കുശേഷം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ചെറുപ്പക്കാർ, ഹോക്കിക്ക് വീണ്ടും പുതുജീവൻ നൽകി. വേറെ എത്രയൊക്കെ മെഡലുകൾ കിട്ടിയാലും ഹോക്കിക്ക് മെഡൽ കിട്ടിയില്ലെങ്കിൽ നമുക്ക് വിജയത്തിന്റെ ആനന്ദം ലഭിക്കില്ല. ഇത്തവണ ഒളിമ്പിക്‌സിൽ നാല് ദശകങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷം ഹോക്കിക്ക് മെഡൽ ലഭിച്ചു. മേജർ ധ്യാൻചന്ദിന്റെ ആത്മാവിന് എത്ര സന്തോഷം തോന്നിയിട്ടുണ്ടാകും എന്ന് നമ്മൾക്ക് സങ്കൽപിക്കാവുന്നതേയുള്ളൂ. കാരണം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതം തന്നെ കളിക്ക് സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു. ഇന്ന് നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലെ യുവാക്കൾക്ക് കളിയിൽ പ്രത്യേക താൽപര്യം തോന്നുന്നുണ്ട്. കുട്ടികൾ കളികളിൽ മുന്നേറുന്നത് അവരുടെ മാതാപിതാക്കൾക്കും സന്തോഷം നൽകുന്നു. കളികളോട് തോന്നുന്ന ഈ ദൃഢമായ ആഗ്രഹം തന്നെയാണ് മേജർ ധ്യാൻചന്ദിന് നൽകാവുന്ന ഏറ്റവും നല്ല ആദരാഞ്ജലി എന്ന് ഞാൻ കരുതുന്നു.ഗുജറാത്തിലെ സോമനാഥില്‍ നിരവധി പദ്ധതികളുടെ ഉദ്ഘാടനവും ശിലാസ്ഥാപനവും നടത്തികൊണ്ടുള്ള പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ അഭിസംബോധന
