Shri Modi is determined to eradicate malnutrition (Part-1)

While inaugurating a programme aiming to distribute Soya based fortified atta in the poor sector of the State under public distribution system, Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi said that on one side the ambitious programme like this will freed the poor of the State from the problems of malnutrition and on the other side it will show the direction to other State for the building up of a healthy society. 

Today at Gandhinagar, the State Government initiated a programme where about 34 lakh poor families will be provided with Soya based fortified atta. The programme will require 4 crore kg of wheat and 20000 kg of Soya. The State has affiliated with 50 flour mills to carry out the process. The atta will be sold at 2 Rs per kg. The project will be implemented with the cost of Rs 200 crore and will benefit BPL families and card holders of ‘Antyodaya yojana'.

Shri Modi in his address said that Soya bean has been proved as a key nutrient but is limited to riches only. The Sate Government has troubled to get it into the foods of poor.

Speaking on several of State's initiative to tackle the problem of malnutrition, Chief Minister said that the State Government is supplying green vegetable seeds to poor without cost. Nutritional food is provided to the children under Mid Day Meal Scheme. Vitamin tablets are being given to girl students under ‘Kishori Shakti Yojana'. An Abhiyan is going on where ‘sukhadi' to pregnant women and milk to poor rural kids is being distributed as if it is a share with God.

He said that 6th April is the date when Mahatma Gandhi blown trumpet against the British powers at Dandi. It is also a resurrection day of Jesus Christ and the birth of Bharatiya Janta Party. Welfare of the remotest poor was the ideal of Pandit Din Dayal Upadhyay and Atal Bihari Bajpai. “Today again on 6th April, the Gujarat Government is taking a new step for the health and happiness of the poor”, he said.

Food and Civil Supply Minister Shri Narottambhai Patel said that the programme is an Abhiyan against malnutrition and suggested that other States can also take Gujarat as a model in this direction.

Earlier, Secretary to Food and Civil Supply Department Shri Rajkumar in his welcome address, detailed out the Soya based fortified atta scheme that is going to benefit about 1.70 crore people.

As a token Chief Minister distributed Soya based fortified atta to poor beneficiaries.

District In-Charge Minister Shri Parbatbhai Patel, Parliamentary Secretary Shri Jaydrathsinhji Parmar, and Chief Secretary Shri A.K.Joti along with MLAs, Government office bearers and BPL families from across the State were present on the occasion. The programme was live telecasted through the network of BISAG.
