Varanasi's transformation into a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking city

Steeped in spirituality, history, and tradition, the ancient city of Varanasi holds a special place in the hearts of millions. In recent years, the city has witnessed an era of unparalleled transformation across infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism sectors.

At the helm of this transformative journey is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose vision for Varanasi transcends mere infrastructure development. Under his leadership, Varanasi is not just evolving; it is flourishing. From improved roadways, ghats and world-class airports to state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, the city is witnessing an unprecedented wave of growth that promises to elevate the city to new heights.

Urban Infrastructure: Paving the Way for Progress

The redevelopment of Varanasi Junction Railway Station into a world-class terminal, echoing the ambiance of an airport, is set to redefine the city's transportation landscape. With an estimated investment of Rs 7000 crores, the station aims to become a global benchmark for railway infrastructure. Various other projects, like the launch of CNG-powered boats on the Ganges symbolizes Varanasi's commitment to eco-friendly transportation, while the ongoing project for a future ropeway promises added convenience for visitors.

Inspired by Kashi’s tradition of people-friendly spaces, the Rudraksh Convention Centre stands as another major highlight. Designed like a Shivalinga, it accommodates 1,200 people and features 108 Rudrakshas on its facade. This center provides modern facilities such as partitioned meeting rooms, an art gallery, and multi-purpose pre-function areas. It serves as a platform for artists to showcase their talents and engage with the community.

From improved roadways, bridges, railways, and airports to new modes of connectivity, traveling to Kashi has become more convenient than ever before. Gone are the days when the streets of Kashi were cluttered with dangling electric wires. Today, most of the city boasts underground wiring, paving the way for a safer and more pleasing environment. The city's numerous kunds, pathways leading to temples, and cultural sites are undergoing extensive revamping, blending tradition with modernity.

Healthcare Revolution: Ensuring Well-being for All

The rapid expansion of healthcare services in Varanasi has been a boon for patients. Key healthcare facilities such as the Child Care Institute in BHU, modern trauma center, and super specialty blocks are providing essential care to residents. The Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Centre has treated over 70,000 patients locally, reducing the need for travel to distant cities for treatment. Facilities such as Kabir Chaura Hospital, District Hospital, and advanced diagnostic services like CT scans have been expanded to enhance healthcare accessibility.

Moreover, the foundation stone laying of the Varanasi branch of the National Centre for Disease Control signifies a major leap forward in public health infrastructure. The operationalization of the Public Health Surveillance Unit has further strengthened Varanasi's ability to monitor and respond to health challenges.

Thriving Agriculture and Agri-Exports

Varanasi's agricultural landscape is experiencing a renaissance, with initiatives aimed at boosting dairy farming and agricultural exports. The upcoming modern Banas Dairy plant, with an investment exceeding Rs 500 crores, is set to empower local farmers. Furthermore, modern processing, transportation, and storage facilities are adding value to agricultural products, fuelling the region's growth as an agricultural hub. As a result, the region's agricultural produce, including the renowned 'Langda' mango of Varanasi and the 'bhindi' and 'hari mirch' of Ghazipur, are now reaching international markets.

Embracing Progress, Preserving Heritage

In the last ten years, Varanasi has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis, blending tradition with innovation and technology. Be it enhanced road connectivity, smart surveillance systems, underground electric wiring, state-of-the-art healthcare facilities or world-class tourist amenities, modern amenities coexist harmoniously with ancient legacy. Through these initiatives, PM Modi envisions a Kashi that stands as a beacon of India's diverse heritage, where residents and travelers alike can embark on a journey of discovery and enlightenment.
