Hon’ble CM to flag off baton on Aug 11, 11 hrs – 11 min

 Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will flag off a baton rally of state's second sports carnival ‘Khel Mahakumbh' on August 11, 2011, 11 hrs – 11 min. morning. The rally will be led by talented sportspersons of the state. The rally will move 2550 km covering all 26 districts of the state and spreading a sporting fervor within the state.

The rally will end on November 21, 2011 handing over the baton to the Chief Minister and subsequently the Chief Minister will announce the beginning of the Khel Mahakumbh–2011.

With a view to give a gala touch to Khel Mahakumbh-2011, a high-level meeting of Youth and Cultural Activities Department was held today under the headship of Chief Minister. Minister Mr. Fakirbhai Vaghela, Chief Secretary Mr. A.K.Joti, Secretary to Cultural Activities department Mr. Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. A.K.Sharma and Director General of Sports Authority of Gujarat Mr. Vikas Sahay were present in the meeting.

Various competitions of village to state level will be held during the Khel Mahakumbh this year. There will be separate competitions for the boys and girls below age 16, male and female above age 16, and for the male and female of the age group of 45 to 60. Separate competitions for the male and females of the age above 60 and for differently-abled people will also be held.

Medal-wining players of Gujarat will be called in as guests of honour in the district-level competitions. Since the youths of the tribal areas of Gujarat are getting expertise in archery, they will be provided with best training.

Chief Minister said that Khel Mahakubh has become instrumental in making Indian games popular among youth. Considering that, new games such as seaside volleyball, shutting ball and others will be added along with the regular games. Registration will be commenced from August 16, 2011. Competitions will be held between November 23 to 28 on panchayat and municipality ward level and November 30 to December 3 on taluka level. District-level competitions will be held during November 23 to December 12. Semifinals will be held during December 16 to 21 while the finals will be held on December 22 and 23.
