Shri Narendra Modi comes out against blatant assault on freedom of speech by UPA.

“As a common man, I join the protest against crackdown on freedom of speech! Have changed my DP. 'Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan.' #GOIBlocks”- Shri Modi on Twitter.

Shri Modi changes display picture on his Twitter with all black picture.

This is not the first time Shri Modi has opposed such attempts by UPA.

Wide applause for Shri Modi’s Tweet across the Internet.

As the UPA Government continues to trample over freedom of expression across the country especially on the Internet, Shri Narendra Modi yet again comes out in support of free speech!

On 24th August 2012, Shri Modi Tweeted, “As a common man, I join the protest against crackdown on freedom of speech! Have changed my DP. 'Sabko Sanmati De Bhagwan.' #GOIBlocks” (May god give good thoughts and wisdom to everyone)

Joining the thousands of netizens on the Internet who are resisting this assault on freedom of speech, Shri Modi changed the display picture of his Twitter handle to an all black image denoting resistance against the high handed attitude of the UPA vis-à-vis public freedom.

This is not the first time Shri Modi has come in support of free speech. In December 2011, ironically on the death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar when the Government was contemplating unwarranted action against social media, Shri Modi had Tweeted Babasaheb Ambedkar enshrined Freedom of Expression in the Constitution & on his Nirvan Diwas, UPA seeks to snatch it! People are best judge.”

In June this year, Shri Modi shared a blog on the 37th anniversary of the Emergency. Titled ‘Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty’, Shri Modi paid rich tributes to all those individuals who sacrificed themselves at the altar of saving democracy.

In another Blog post in June this year, Shri Modi shared some invaluable pearls of wisdom on the agent of change that our social media has become. He lauded the efforts of individuals who are making a difference through social media, which in his view has given voice to the common man. Shri Modi also wrote that he got some brilliant ideas and met some wonderful people through social media.

In repeated interviews, Shri Modi has always said that criticism is the hallmark of democracy and that without criticism there cannot be democracy.

Shri Modi’s step has been tremendously received by the Twitterverse. It has sent out a strong message that if the freedom of speech is in anyway compromised by the Government, the common man and woman of India will not take kindly to it and resist it tooth and nail.
