પ્રધાનમંત્રી શ્રી નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ આજે વારાણસીમાં બનારસ હિન્દુ વિશ્વવિદ્યાલય ખાતે એકત્ર જનમેદની સમક્ષ કેટલીક મહત્વની વિકાસલક્ષી પરિયોજનાઓનું ઉદઘાટન અને શિલાન્યાસ વિધિ કરી હતી.

જે પરિયોજનાઓનું ઉદઘાટન કરાયું હતું તેમાં જૂના કાશી માટે ઈન્ટીગ્રેટેડ પાવર ડેવલપમેન્ટ સ્કીમ (આઈપીડીએસ) અને બનારસ હિન્દુ વિશ્વવિદ્યાલય ખાતે અટલ ઈન્ક્યુબેશન સેન્ટરનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. જે પરિયોજનાઓની શિલાન્યાસ વિધિ કરવામાં આવી હતી તેમાં બનારસ હિન્દુ વિશ્વવિદ્યાલય ખાતે પ્રાદેશિક ઓપ્થૉલ્મૉલોજી સેન્ટરનો સમાવેશ થાય છે.

જે પરિયોજનાઓનું આજે ઉદઘાટન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું અને જેની શિલાન્યાસ વિધિ કરવામાં આવી હતી તેનું એકંદર મૂલ્ય રૂ. 550 કરોડ થાય છે.

આ પ્રસંગે વાત કરતાં પ્રધાનમંત્રીશ્રીએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે વારાણસીમાં પરિવર્તન દ્વારા આ શહેરનો સમૃદ્ધ વારસો જાળવવા પ્રયાસ થઈ રહ્યો છે. તેમણે જણાવ્યું કે આ શહેરનું આધુનિકીકરણ કરવાની સાથે-સાથે તેની પૌરાણિક ઓળખ જાળવવામાં આવી રહી છે, કાશીના લોકોના 4 વર્ષના પ્રયાસોને પરિણામે પરિવર્તન આવ્યું છે, જે હવે દેખાઈ રહ્યું છે.

શ્રી નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ વિજળી, માર્ગ અને અન્ય માળખાગત સુવિધા ક્ષેત્રની વિવિધ પરિયોજનાઓનો ઉલ્લેખ કર્યો હતો કે, જેમાં નોંધપાત્ર પ્રગતિ થઈ છે અને વારાણસી શહેરમાં અને નજીકના વિસ્તારમાં રહેતા લોકોના જીવનમાં પરિવર્તન આવ્યું છે.

પ્રધાનમંત્રીએ જણાવ્યું કે નાગરિકો જ્યારે વારાણસી કેન્ટ સ્ટેશનની ઓનલાઈન તસવીરો પોસ્ટ કરે છે ત્યારે મને ઘણો આનંદ થાય છે. તેમણે ઉલ્લેખ કર્યો હતો કે પરિવહનની માળખાગત સુવિધાઓનું આધુનિકીકરણ કરવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે. તેમણે સ્વચ્છતા માટે થઈ રહેલી કામગીરી અને શહેરની સુંદરતામાં વધારો કરી રહી હોવાનો ઉલ્લેખ કર્યો હતો. તેમણે જણાવ્યું કે જે પ્રયાસોથી પ્રવાસન ક્ષેત્રે પરિવર્તન આવશે તે પ્રયાસો સાતત્યપૂર્ણ છે. આ સંદર્ભમાં તેમણે સારનાથ ખાતે થઈ રહેલી કામગીરીનો પણ ઉલ્લેખ કર્યો હતો.

પ્રધાનમંત્રીએ જણાવ્યું કે માર્ગો, વિજળી અને પાણી જેવી સુવિધાઓ વારાણસીની આજુ બાજુ આવેલા ગ્રામીણ વિસ્તારો સુધી પણ પહોંચાડવામાં આવી છે. તેમણે કહ્યું કે કાશી હવે આરોગ્યનું મુખ્ય કેન્દ્ર બની રહ્યું છે. આજે જેનું ઉદઘાટન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું તે અટલ ઈન્ક્યુબેશન સેન્ટરનો ઉલ્લેખ કરતાં તેમણે કહ્યું કે સ્ટાર્ટઅપને તેની સાથે જોડાવાની શરૂઆત થઈ ચૂકી છે. તેમણે કહ્યું કે વારાણસીનો સમાવેશ દેશના એવા પસંદગીના શહેરોમાં થાય છે કે જ્યાં પાઈપ દ્વારા ગેસ ઉપલબ્ધ કરાવવામાં આવી રહ્યો છે.

પ્રધાનમંત્રીએ વારાણસીના લોકોને અનુરોધ કર્યો હતો કે આ શહેરના પરિવર્તન માટે જે સામાન્ય બાબતો છે તેનો સંતોષપૂર્વક નિકાલ કરવા માટે સમર્પણ ભાવ દાખવે.
