While addressing a Parivartan rally at Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Uttarakhand can no longer wait for development. Shri Modi launched the Chardham highway development project and said that it is a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives in Kedarnath tragedy. The Prime Minister said the new project will improve connectivity to the Chardham pilgrimage centres.

Shri Modi mentioned that facilities for pilgrims at Chardham Yatra centres were not adequate and due to that several devotees were unable to travel. “Hurried conception of schemes may be able to give short term political gains but the gains for people will be limited”, remarked PM Modi.

Shri Narendra Modi stated that the Chardham Yartra Project will not only add to the region’s development but also cater to needs and provide employment to the state’s youth.

The Prime Minister highlighted how the Centre has taken the work of electrifying India’s villages in mission mode. “Over 18 thousand villages lived in darkness for several decades but have taken up the task to electrify them. We want to energise the lives in rural areas”, said Shri Modi. He also shed light on Ujjwala Yojana aimed at providing five crore LPG connections for the poor in three years.

Prime Minister Modi said that Uttarakhand is the land of the courageous. “For over 40 years the ex-servicemen battled for One Rank One Pension but previous governments never paid attention to their needs, they allotted Rs. 500 crore when the polls were approaching. But in reality, the budget for OROP is over Rs. 10,000 crore. After we came to power, we took note of their concerns and implemented One Rank One pension scheme. This has widely benefited our jawans”, said the PM.

PM Modi said that corruption must be eliminated at levels. He added further, “We have initiated a step to end corruption. Bribes were taken from candidates at interviews to offer jobs. We have undertaken strict measures and eliminated interviews for class III and class IV jobs.”

Prime Minister Modi said that the corrupt will be punished and it is now happening. The PM added, “People of the country despite facing certain inconveniences have fought against corruption and black money. Ours is an endeavour to strengthen the hands of the honest and law abiding citizen of India.”

Several party karyakartas and Union Ministers attended the event.
