Speaking at a public meeting at Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it was the mandate in 2014 that is helping shape an India that is free from corruption.

Paying tribute to former PM, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, PM Modi took note how in 1962, then MP from Ghazipur, Vishwanath Pratap urged Pandit. Nehru to work towards eradicating poverty in the Poorvanchal region.

“Vishwanath Ji spoke in Parliament. He was in tears and urged Pandit Nehru to do something about poverty in Poorvanchal. Pandit Nehru then decided to constitute a Patel Committee and in that report they had listed steps for the development on this area. I have come here on 14th November deliberately, to expose those who did not work towards fulfilling what Pandit Nehru had wanted to do”, said Shri Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi said NDA Government’s aim is to transform lives of the poor and farmers in the region. He highlighted about Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. “The NDA government is for the poor, it is for the farmers and it is for rural India”, Shri Modi added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked Congress party for the Emergency imposed in the country. “What did the Congress do for 19 months during the Emergency? They made this nation a prison, threatened and arrested people. The police during the Emergency would randomly go to homes, threaten people and Congress leaders made money in those times. Newspapers were shut, editors were put behind the bars for raising their voice”, he added further.

Speaking on demonetization of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes, Shri Modi remarked, “India has no shortage of wealth. The question is who has this wealth? I had promised you that our Government will end corruption and we have initiated steps in that direction.”

PM Modi clearly stated that the NDA Government would never let anyone loot the money that belongs to the poor of India. “Our neighbours are indulging in counterfeit currency and trying to flooding our nation with these notes. We need to put an end to this”, he added.

He took note of the inconvenience faced by people due to demonetization drive. PM Modi urged people to cooperate and follow guidelines set by the Government and banks. PM Modi added that the Government is working tirelessly to help people overcome this. “Those against me are strong people. But, I will not be scared of them. I will not leave the path of truth & integrity. A new era of development has started”, said the Prime Minister.
