Addressing the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a new development journey of Jammu and Kashmir has begun in last one year. he highlighted the government's focus on development of Leh, Ladakh and Kashmir regions.

The PM emphasised about building a development ecosystem in the country. He said that some parts of the county despite having people with huge potential have lagged behind in the development process and to address the same, the government is plugging those gaps.

PM Modi cited examples being Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, expansion of gas pipelines, brand new railway infra structure, which were ushering in a new era of development for the eastern and north-eastern India. He said that similarly the government plans to develop Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Speaking about how the abrogation of Article 370, has helped Jammu and Kashmir in last one year, he said that the government was making stupendous efforts to improve the lives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it was a matter of pride for all Indians, that all the sarpanches across Jammu and Kashmir, were putting in a great effort to ensure development reaches everyone in the union territory and it progresses along with the rest of the country.

Talking about elections in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the Delimitation process was underway in Jammu and Kashmir and once completed, an election will be held in the Union Territory and Jammu and Kashmir would have its own chief minister and ministers.

The Prime Minister spoke at length about development in Ladakh region. He said that Ladakh’s long-pending demand to be granted the status of a union territory had also been met and Ladakh was on the path to progress.

PM Modi visits the Indian Arrival Monument

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
