Addressing the people of Mizoram via video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, “Before 2014, people perceived the northeastern states, such as Mizoram, as distant from Delhi both physically and psychologically. The BJP recognized this sense of distance and, after coming into power as part of the NDA government in 2014, made it a priority to bridge this gap by addressing the aspirations and needs of the northeastern states.”

“In the last nine years, I have had the privilege of visiting the Northeastern states 60 times. Apart from this, large-scale development and connectivity works also reduced the physical distance. BJP has brought the country's capital, Delhi, to the doorstep of the people of the North-East. That means Delhi is no longer far; Delhi is at your doorstep,” he further added.

Highlighting the infrastructural development in the region, PM Modi stated, “During one of my earlier visits to Mizoram, I had promised to work for ‘Transformation by Transportation’. Since then, a revolution has happened across sectors due to the work of the BJP-led Government. In railways, we did something that had not been done in 7 decades of independence. When it comes to roadways, our work across the Northeast is well known. Till 2013-14, the total length of National Highways in the Northeast was 8,500 kilometres. We almost doubled it to 15,700 kilometres in 2022-23.”

PM Modi discussed the impact of various developmental initiatives in Mizoram. He mentioned the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides free healthcare to the poor, benefiting around 4.5 lakh Mizoram residents across 100 hospitals. Additionally, he talked about the support for farmers through schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, with approximately 1,75,000 Mizoram farmers receiving financial assistance annually. “Be it crop insurance, irrigation, natural farming or taking their products to the markets, BJP has worked in every direction to empower the farmers,” he said.

The PM announced, “You know that PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana was started during the Corona pandemic. Under this scheme, free ration has been ensured to 80 crore poor citizens of the country for the last three years. Now our Government has decided that the scheme of free ration to the poor will be extended for the next five years. No poor should remain hungry; every poor should get free ration; this is Modi's guarantee.”

Thanking the people of Mizoram for their work in Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Modi said, “It is you who made Mizoram the state with 100 Percent functional public toilets. It is you who is building a Clean and Green Mizoram.”

Regarding the sports talent and infrastructure, PM Modi remarked, “The youth of India are flying the flag of India higher and higher in every global sports tournament. There is great passion for sports in the Northeast. This region, including Mizoram, has played a key role in India’s rise. We are committed to increasing the overall sports infrastructure. We are focusing on creating sports academies and scholarships for young athletes in the future.”

PM Modi to inaugurate ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 on 25th November
November 24, 2024
PM to launch UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025
Theme of the conference, "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," aligns with the Indian Government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi”

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and launch the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025 on 25th November at around 3 PM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

ICA Global Cooperative Conference and ICA General Assembly is being organised in India for the first time in the 130 year long history of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), the premier body for the Global Cooperative movement. The Global Conference, hosted by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), in collaboration with ICA and Government of India, and Indian Cooperatives AMUL and KRIBHCO will be held from 25th to 30th November.

The theme of the conference, "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," aligns with the Indian Government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation). The event will feature discussions, panel sessions, and workshops, addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by cooperatives worldwide in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as poverty alleviation, gender equality, and sustainable economic growth.

Prime Minister will launch the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025, which will focus on the theme, “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” underscoring the transformative role cooperatives play in promoting social inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable development. The UN SDGs recognize cooperatives as crucial drivers of sustainable development, particularly in reducing inequality, promoting decent work, and alleviating poverty. The year 2025 will be a global initiative aimed at showcasing the power of cooperative enterprises in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.

Prime Minister will also launch a commemorative postal stamp, symbolising India’s commitment to the cooperative movement. The stamp showcases a lotus, symbolising peace, strength, resilience, and growth, reflecting the cooperative values of sustainability and community development. The five petals of the lotus represent the five elements of nature (Panchatatva), highlighting cooperatives' commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The design also incorporates sectors like agriculture, dairy, fisheries, consumer cooperatives, and housing, with a drone symbolising the role of modern technology in agriculture.

Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji His Excellency Manoa Kamikamica and around 3,000 delegates from over 100 countries will also be present.
