Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted US President Donald Trump at the world’s largest cricket stadium in Motera, where they jointly addressed a community programme – ‘Namaste Trump’. In his remarks, US President Donald Trump referred to PM Modi as his ‘true friend’.

Mr. Trump said, “My gratitude to an exceptional leader, a great champion of India, a man who works night and day for his country, and a man I am proud to call my true friend, Prime Minister Modi. The First Lady and I have travelled 8,000 miles around the globe to deliver a message to every citizen of this nation. America loves India, America respects India, and America will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people.”

Thanking the people for their warm hospitality, President Trump said, “You have done a great honour to Melania, my family, we will always remember this remarkable hospitality, we will remember it forever.”

US President Trump also mentioned about the humble beginnings of PM Modi. He said, “The life of Prime Minister Modi underscores the limitless promise of this great nation. He started out by his father's side, as a chaiwala, a tea seller. When he was young man, he worked at a cafeteria in this city. Everybody loves him but I will tell you this, he is very tough negotiator.”

Applauding PM Modi’s leadership, President Trump said, “Today, Prime Minister Modi is the very successful leader of this vast Indian republic. Last year, more than 600 million people went to the polls and gave him a landslide victory like no other, in the largest democratic election ever held anywhere on the face of the earth.”

President Trump further said that PM Modi was not just the pride of Gujarat, but “living proof that with hard work and devotion, Indians can accomplish anything, anything at all, anything they want.”

“The Prime Minister's is a moving story of an incredible rise and so does this entire nation. Your nation is doing so well, we are very, very proud of India”, President Trump added.

November 21, 2024

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
