Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed eminent citizens on his latest visit to his electoral constituency Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

Explaining how the ancient city of Kashi had transformed him as a person, PM Modi said, “Kashi did not only gave me an opportunity to become an MP, but also blessed me with the opportunity to become the PM of the country. By associating myself with Varanasi and its ancient Vedic traditions, I was inspired by its wisdom and knowledge and inculcated these in my political and social life. The love and affection that I received from Kashi has overwhelmed me and I promise to keep working on bringing back the ancient glory of this holy city and devote all my time to nation-building.”

Amid huge chants of 'Modi-Modi' from his supporters, PM Modi expressed confidence that the BJP and the NDA will return to power after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with "Varanasi’s blessings.”

Addressing the people, Prime Minister Modi also raised the issue of global terrorism and said that India held the mega Kumbh Mela but no terrorist dared to attack holy sites in the last five years like what used to happen frequently before 2014 when the Congress-led UPA was in power.

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
