The Congress and its allies want to create a weak and unstable government made up of opportunist alliances because they are all power-hungry: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed his third rally for the day in Panaji, the state capital of Goa.

Speaking at the rally, PM Modi fondly remembered ex-CM of Goa and former colleague in the government, Late Shri Manohar Parrikar, who passed away recently and said, “Goa recently lost one of its greatest sons with the sad demise of Mr. Parrikar. He was not only an extremely devoted in serving the people of Goa with all his strength but also gave a great service to the country as India’s Defence Minister. He spearheaded the surgical strikes campaign in 2016 and I am fortunate to have closely worked with him in shaping a stronger defence doctrine of India.”

Criticising the Congress for endemic corruption in its defence deals and thereby weakening India’s defence abilities, Prime Minister Modi said, “The entire nation knows the state of India’s defence sector while the Congress was in power. There was hardly any defence deal that was not under the scanner for corruption during those days, be it the Bofors scandal or the Helicopter scandal. The first-family of the Congress and its middlemen wanted to do the same to the Rafale deal but when they could not, they sat over the deal for years without finalizing it. However, the country is now witnessing how the Congress leaders and their aides were profiting from these deals with the discovery of large amounts of illegal cash after IT raids. The Congress must answer the public on this issue.”

Expressing concern over the state of governance during coalition rule by Congress and its allied parties before 2014, PM Modi said, “The Congress and its allies want to create a weak and unstable government made up of opportunist alliances because they are all power-hungry and want to loot the country’s resources without ever being questioned for it. Goa itself has seen a series of unstable coalition governments during Congress tenures, as a result of which, the state’s development greatly suffered.” Contrasting this to the stable and strong BJP governments in Goa, PM Modi said that the BJP governments have revived the state’s economy, specifically the tourism sector in order to empower the local youth.

PM Modi visits the Indian Arrival Monument
November 21, 2024

Prime Minister visited the Indian Arrival monument at Monument Gardens in Georgetown today. He was accompanied by PM of Guyana Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips. An ensemble of Tassa Drums welcomed Prime Minister as he paid floral tribute at the Arrival Monument. Paying homage at the monument, Prime Minister recalled the struggle and sacrifices of Indian diaspora and their pivotal contribution to preserving and promoting Indian culture and tradition in Guyana. He planted a Bel Patra sapling at the monument.

The monument is a replica of the first ship which arrived in Guyana in 1838 bringing indentured migrants from India. It was gifted by India to the people of Guyana in 1991.
