Sunday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid glowing tributes to the torchbearer of Mahagujarat movement Induchacha at his statue in Lal Darwaja area wherefrom he drove to ‘Shahid Smarak' in the Bhadra area to pay tributes to all the martyrs of movement.

Gujarat was bifurcated from Maharashtra on 1st May, 1960 after a prolonged movement under the leadership of late Induchaha. People even had to launch an agitation to establish the Shahid Smarak as a memorial to the martyrs. At last, the then Congress government was compelled to give its nod. The Chief Minister revived the moments of Mahagujarat movement when innocent students and agitators received bullets from where the Congress House was located then. Those who were demanding a separate state were imprisioned and had to bear the atrocities.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by the Speaker of Gujarat Assembly Shri Ganapat Vasava, Revenue Minister Smt Anandiben Patel and other cabinet colleagues.

Even as the sun shines on ‘Swarnim' Gujarat, the movement reverberates with slogans of ‘Swarnim Varsh', energizing the state involving people's participation as a massive Janshakti. Chief Minister expressed resolve to sustain the fast paced development of Gujarat. The fruits of development must reach to one and everyone.

Chief Minister extended warm greetings to Gujarati community on the occasion of foundation day. He gave a call to contribute for the development of Gujarat and India.

Mayor of Ahmedabad Shri Asit Vora, Deputy Mayor Darshna Vaghela, Members of Parliament, MLAs, Chief Secretary Shri A.K.Joti, family members of the martyrs were present on the occasion.
