Shri Modi gives Mantra of zero-defect, packaging and branding to make the manufacturing sector shine

Gujarat is now known for its manufacturing sector as well: Shri Modi

Our manufacturing sector needs to adopt a zero-defect Mantra. None of our products should be rejected. We need to move ahead in this: CM

This is my first visit to Surat after elections. I thank the people. Surat and South Gujarat have a big role in BJP’s win: Shri Modi

On the morning of Friday 4th January 2013 Shri Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural session of Sparkle International 2013, a gems and jewellery exhibition organized by the Government of Gujarat and the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Surat. In an inspiring speech, Shri Modi said that for the manufacturing sector to shine, we need to follow the Mantra of ‘zero defect’, give importance to packaging and branding. “There should be no corner of the world where people are not drawn towards buying products made here and I can tell you it is possible,” he added.

Shri Modi pointed out that anti-Gujarat elements have created a perception of only a certain kind of industrial growth taking place in Gujarat but categorically stated that it is not true. Referring to the statement by Dr. HP Kumar (Chairman cum Managing Director, National Small Industries Corporation) that small-scale industry growth in the nation is 19-20% whereas Gujarat is seeing 85% growth in the sector, Shri Modi affirmed that this is the Government of India stating this and added that Gujarat has worked towards this. “Skill development, infrastructure, power, social security arrangement- when all these meet, this becomes possible,” the Chief Minister opined.

The Chief Minister recalled that when the world was drowned in the grip of a recession in 2008, officials asked him if Gujarat could go ahead with Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2009. But we did go on to hold the Summit and showed the world that in such times, something new is happening in Gujarat. “We got the results and had we not gone ahead bravely, diamond industry would have died, we would have gone behind. We took decisions and went ahead!” the Chief Minister pointed.

Shri Modi stated that Gujarat is now known for its manufacturing sector, instead of being known only for business and trading earlier and this has added tremendous value. Speaking about the potential in jewellery industry Shri Modi said, “Jewellery itself has a big market in the world. This is going on for years. And we don’t need to tell people the need to wear it, it’s only a question of saying what to wear.”

The Chief Minister said that the jewellery market can grow to Rs. 5500 crore instead of the present Rs. 2700 crore. “If such a big market is waiting for us, why can’t we be aggressive? Why can’t we give it strength?”

He added that both Thailand and Dubai have made a name in jewellery and in both these places among the maximum number of people participating are from Gujarat. “We have the strength, we need to utilize it and make a name for ourselves,” said Shri Modi.

The Chief Minister listed out 3 essential aspects that can make our manufacturing sector shine. “Our manufacturing sector needs to adopt a zero-defect Mantra. None of our products must be rejected. We need to move ahead in this,” he affirmed. The second aspect that Shri Modi gave importance to is packaging. He stated that packaging is as important as the product and we must focus on institutional development in this sector by holding seminars etc. He recalled that many years ago the Government had set up the Hathi Commission, which opined that if we are to give an impetus to Ayurveda, it needs good packaging. Shri Modi shared that this is exactly what China did with natural medicines and with good packaging captured a major part of the world market. The third aspect that Shri Modi gave importance to is Branding. Shri Modi stressed that the product should fit into the mind of the world.

The Chief Minister talked about the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit and stated that 120-125 nations will converge under a single roof during the summit, which is no small feat. He shared his determination to take Sparkle to similar heights.

He also said that this is his first visit to Surat after the Gujarat elections and he thanked the people for their mandate in the 2012 Gujarat Elections. Shri Modi affirmed that Surat and South Gujarat have a major role in the BJP’s victory.

Among those present on the occasion were Minister Shri Nanubhai Vanani, MPs Shri CR Patil & Smt. Darshana Jardosh, Surat mayor, Surat collector Shri JP Shivahare, Industries Commissioner Mr. Kamal Dayani, Shri HP Kumar (CMD National Small Industries Corporation) and the Honorable Consul General of Thailand.

PM to launch UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025
Theme of the conference, "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," aligns with the Indian Government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi”

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and launch the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025 on 25th November at around 3 PM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

ICA Global Cooperative Conference and ICA General Assembly is being organised in India for the first time in the 130 year long history of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), the premier body for the Global Cooperative movement. The Global Conference, hosted by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), in collaboration with ICA and Government of India, and Indian Cooperatives AMUL and KRIBHCO will be held from 25th to 30th November.

The theme of the conference, "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," aligns with the Indian Government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation). The event will feature discussions, panel sessions, and workshops, addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by cooperatives worldwide in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as poverty alleviation, gender equality, and sustainable economic growth.

Prime Minister will launch the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025, which will focus on the theme, “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” underscoring the transformative role cooperatives play in promoting social inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable development. The UN SDGs recognize cooperatives as crucial drivers of sustainable development, particularly in reducing inequality, promoting decent work, and alleviating poverty. The year 2025 will be a global initiative aimed at showcasing the power of cooperative enterprises in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges.

Prime Minister will also launch a commemorative postal stamp, symbolising India’s commitment to the cooperative movement. The stamp showcases a lotus, symbolising peace, strength, resilience, and growth, reflecting the cooperative values of sustainability and community development. The five petals of the lotus represent the five elements of nature (Panchatatva), highlighting cooperatives' commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The design also incorporates sectors like agriculture, dairy, fisheries, consumer cooperatives, and housing, with a drone symbolising the role of modern technology in agriculture.

Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji His Excellency Manoa Kamikamica and around 3,000 delegates from over 100 countries will also be present.
