প্রধানমন্ত্রী শ্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদী আজ পডকাস্টে লেক্স ফ্রিডম্যানের সঙ্গে বিভিন্ন বিষয় নিয়ে মতবিনিময় করেছেন। মতবিনিময়ের সময় যখন তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করা হয়, শ্রী মোদী কিভাবে উপবাসের সময়কালে সব কাজ করতে পারেন, তখন প্রধানমন্ত্রী লেক্সকে প্রথমে কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করে বলেন, তাঁকে সম্মান জানানোর জন্য লেক্স যে উপবাস করেছেন তা অভূতপূর্ব। “ভারতের ধর্মীয় রীতি-নীতি দৈনন্দিন জীবনের সঙ্গে গভীরভাবে সম্পৃক্ত”। ভারতের সুপ্রিম কোর্টও বলেছে, হিন্দুত্ব কোনো রীতিনীতি নয়, বরং জীবনের পথ চলার এক মাধ্যম। শৃঙ্খলাপরায়ণ হওয়া এবং জীবনের বিভিন্ন ঘাত-প্রতিঘাতের মধ্যে সমতা বজায় রাখার ক্ষেত্রে উপবাস খুবই সহায়ক হয়। উপবাস ভাবনা-চিন্তার মানসিকতাকে ত্বরান্বিত করে, চিরাচরিত পন্থা থেকে বেরিয়ে নতুন কিছু ভাবতে সাহায্য করে। শ্রী মোদী বলেন, উপবাস করার অর্থ শুধুমাত্র খাদ্য গ্রহণ না করাই নয়, এটি আসলে শরীর থেকে ক্ষতিকারক পদার্থ বের করার একটি বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতি। তিনি জানান, উপবাসের আগে তিনি দীর্ঘদিন ধরে কিছু আয়ুর্বেদিক এবং যোগ-এর রীতিনীতি অনুসরণ করেন। উপবাসকালে জল পান করার ওপর তিনি গুরুত্ব দেন। উপবাসের সময়কালে তিনি আত্মবিশ্লেষণের ওপর গুরুত্ব দেন। প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, স্কুল জীবনে মহাত্মা গান্ধীর আন্দোলন থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে তিনি উপবাস করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। প্রথমবার তিনি যখন উপবাস করেছিলেন সেই সময় তিনি অনুভব করেন যে আগের থেকে অনেক বেশি শক্তি সঞ্চয় করেছেন তিনি। এর মধ্য দিয়ে শক্তি সম্পর্কে তাঁর ধারণা জন্মায়। উপবাস করার ফলে তাঁর কর্মক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি পায়। সেই সময় তিনি অনেক কিছু নতুনভাবে ভাবতে পারেন, অতুলনীয় কিছু অভিজ্ঞতা সঞ্চয় হয় তাঁর।
