PM Modi, Fiji PM discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in solar and renewable energy, agriculture, education and health

Rear Admiral (Retd.) Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Prime Minister of Fiji, met Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences for the loss of life in Fiji due to the Category 5 Cyclone Winston, which struck Fiji on 20 February 2016. The Prime Minister said that India stood ready to provide all possible assistance to Fiji in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked the Prime Minister for the US$ 1 million assistance and 45 tonnes of relief material provided by India in the immediate aftermath of the cyclone. 

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment made at the 2nd FIPIC Summit in Jaipur in August 2015, to strengthen cooperation in Disaster Management with all Pacific Island countries, including through the establishment of a Space Technology Applications Centre for the region.

The two leaders also discussed avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation in solar and renewable energy, agriculture, education and health.

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
