Prime Minister Narendra Modi held productive talks with UK Prime Minister Theresa May. The leaders exchanged views on further enhancing India-UK ties in several sectors.

During their interaction, PM Modi said that he was glad to begin his programmes in the UK with the meeting and thanked PM May for the gesture of Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson welcoming him. He said that the gesture showed UK’s respect for 125 crore Indians.

PM Modi stated that India-UK ties were diverse and extensive. “Our meeting today will give new energy to bilateral cooperation between our nations”, he said during his talks with PM May. He opined that the Indian diaspora in the UK brought both the countries closer and that it was playing a commendable role in furthering the India-UK friendship.

Adding further, he said, “The world is concerned about global warming and actionable work is being done in the form of the International Solar Alliance. Recently, we had a good Summit in India. I welcome the UK joining the International Solar Alliance. This gives strength to the fight against global warming. We are doing this for the wellbeing of our future generations.”
