PM Narendra Modi today flagged off New India marathon from Surat. Speaking at the event, PM Modi urged to build a New India, which is free from politics of caste, communalism and corruption. He said, “We want create an India where every citizen is empowered.”

“To build a New India is our mission. It is the best tribute to the great women and men who gave their lives for India's freedom”, the PM said.

The PM remarked that when the people decide they want to achieve something, no force can stop them, this is the power of the people. “No country is made by leaders or governments. It is the strength of the people that builds a nation”, he added further.

Appreciating Surat for the dedication towards the event, he said, “The city of Surat is blessed with remarkable determination. This is a city which believes in harmony.” He urged the citizens of Surat to actively take part in this year's Yoga Day in June and the 'Run for Unity' in October.

First such instance that a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will attend the Christmas Celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) at the CBCI Centre premises, New Delhi at 6:30 PM on 23rd December.

Prime Minister will interact with key leaders from the Christian community, including Cardinals, Bishops and prominent lay leaders of the Church.

This is the first time a Prime Minister will attend such a programme at the Headquarters of the Catholic Church in India.

Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) was established in 1944 and is the body which works closest with all the Catholics across India.
