Narendra Modi dares Centre with all resources at its command to compete with Gujarat, which has set benchmarks of development

Ahmedabad, Sunday: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today challenged the Union Government with to compete with a small state like Gujarat in various parameters of development.

He said that the Centre has billions of rupees and unlimited powers and yet fights shy of Gujarat. The Centre has spent unimpeded money in innumerous projects but results don’t show. He asked the Manmohan Singh Government at the Centre to give detailed accounts of the tall promises it had made at times of elections to the public.

Rounding up his 18th day-long Sadbhavna fast at Bharuch as part of his state-wide ‘Sadbhavna Mission’ to hold such fasts at 33 places, he said this mission is not to win elections, but to sound the death knell of the vote bank politics.

Mr. Modi said that Gujarat has redefined India’s politics and has set its own benchmarks of developments. It has contributed to 72 per cent of all jobs in the country. Even if one doesn’t like Gujarat will have to compete with Gujarat.

He said that Gujarat has undertaken a path of development through unity, peace and brotherhood for the last ten years. He told his adversaries that hurling abuses about Sadbhavna would take them nowhere, instead should shun spitting venom of casteism and communalism. Adopt the Gujarat model of development and see the difference, he said.

Reciprocating the people’s unprecedented support to his Sadbhavna Mission, he said the attendance has far outnumbered all expectations, reflecting the state’s social, women and youth power.

Nearly 12,000 people of all ages, from all walks of life, hailing from all the eight talukas of Bharuch district, voluntarily joined Mr. Modi in the fast.

Mr. Modi said that Bharuch and Kutch districts have maximum number of Muslims in Gujarat, and the two districts top the development works in Gujarat. He announced 2,200 new development works worth Rs.1,675-crore for Bharuch district.
