United States of America returns 297 antiquities to India

During PM Modi's visit to the U.S., President Biden facilitated the return of 297 stolen or trafficked Indian antiquities. A select few were symbolically handed over during their bilateral meeting in Wilmington, Delaware. The antiquities, dating from 2000 BCE to 1900 CE, span various regions and materials, with most being terracotta from Eastern India. This repatriation follows a Cultural Property Agreement signed in July 2024 to enhance cooperation in protecting cultural heritage, as pledged in the 2023 Joint Statement.
