PM Modi addressed the Parliament of Uganda. This was the first address by an Indian Prime Minister. In his address the PM listed out India’s deep rooted ties with Africa adding that Uganda was central to India’s commitment to the continent. He said, “For India, the moral principles of independence movement were not just confined to the boundaries of India. It was a universal quest for liberty, dignity, equality and opportunity for every human being. During Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi termed GST as ‘Good and Simple Tax’ that was bringing a positive change in the country’s economy at a fast pace. The PM appreciated cooperation between States & Centre in smooth rollout of GST. The PM spoke about Non-Cooperation movement, 75 years of Quit India movement & role of greats in India’s freedom struggle. He also expressed concern about floods in several parts of the country & urged authorities to step up relief operations.
