Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money)—an app that can be used by citizens for making digital transactions and payments. The app is part of an aggressive effort by the government to promote a less-cash economy. Government has rolled out the Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana to promote cashless transactions. This will further incentivise digital payments and would be a big boost in the move towards cashless and corruption-free India. The scheme will become operational with the first draw on 25th December, 2016 (as a Christmas gift to the nation) leading up to a Mega Draw on Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti on 14th April 2017.
