PM Modi addressed election rallies in Tamil Nadu's Madurai and Kanyakumari. He invoked MGR's legacy, saying who can forget the film 'Madurai Veeran'. Hitting out at Congress, which is contesting the Tamil Nadu election 2021 in alliance with DMK, PM Modi said, “In 1980 Congress dismissed MGR’s democratically elected government, following which elections were called and MGR won from the Madurai West seat. The people of Madurai stood behind him like a rock.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister calls on PM

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri O. Paneerselvam, met PM Narendra Modi today. The ban imposed on Jallikattu by the Supreme Court came up for discussion. While appreciating the cultural significance of Jallikattu, the PM observed that the matter is presently sub-judice. The PM assured that all possible assistance would be provided to the State to address the drought situation, and a central team would be deputed to the State shortly.
