The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas under Civil/Defence sector across the country and expansion of one existing KV i.e. KV Shivamogga, District Shivamogga, Karnataka to facilitate increased number of Central Government employees by adding two additional Sections in all the classes under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme (Central Sector Scheme).

Cabinet approves Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Rabi Crops for Marketing Season 2025-26

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by PM Modi, has approved a hike in MSP for all Rabi crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. The highest increase is for Rapeseed & Mustard at ₹300/quintal, followed by Lentil at ₹275/quintal. The move aligns with the government's commitment to offering MSP at least 1.5 times the all-India average cost of production, ensuring farmers get fair prices and promoting crop persification.

Cabinet approves continuation of supply of free Fortified Rice under PMGKY and other welfare schemes from July 2024 to December 2028

Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation of the universal supply of Fortified Rice under all schemes of the Government including Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) and Other Welfare Schemes etc. in its present form, from July 2024 and upto December 2028. The rice fortification initiative will continue as a central sector initiative with 100% funding by the Government of India as part of PMGKAY (Food Subsidy), thus providing a unified institutional mechanism for implementation.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the setting up of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in Assam. IARI-Assam would be a Post-Graduate Institution of higher learning in Agricultural Education. It will have the hallmark identity of an IARI including all sectors of agriculture like field crops, horticultural crops, agro-forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries, poultry, piggery, silk rearing, honey production, etc.

Cabinet approves Capital Grant to GAIL for development of Gas Infrastructure in Eastern part of the country

CCEA chaired by PM Modi approved viability partial capital grant at 40% (Rs. 5,176 crore) of the estimated capital cost of Rs. 12,940 crore to GAIL for development of 2539 km long Jagdishpur-Haidia and Bokaro-Dhamra Gas Pipeline (JHBDPL) project. Govt has taken this historic decision to provide Capital Support for developing this gas pipeline. JHBDPL project will connect Eastern part of the country with National Gas Grid.

Cabinet approves Initiatives to revive the Construction Sector

CCEA approved measures to revive the construction sector. Under the proposal, Govt agencies would pay 75% of arbitral award amount to an escrow account against margin free bank guarantee, in those cases where the award is challenged. It will increase ability of construction companies to bid for new contracts & resulting competition will be beneficial in containing costs of public works. This measure will provide stimulus to construction industry & to employment.
