PM Modi’s Southern Sojourn encompassed an action-packed tour of the three states of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. He inaugurated and laid foundation stones for various projects across sectors of infrastructure, tourism, and health among others totalling about Rs. 19,000 crores. A special highlight of this trip is PM’s visit to the Bandipur and Mudumalai wildlife sanctuaries to commemorate the 50th anniversary of “Project Tiger”.

PM Modi visited the Bandipur and Mudumalai Tiger Reserves in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. He also visited the Theppakadu Elephant camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve where he interacted with mahouts and kavadis and also fed the elephants. The PM also interacted with elephant keepers featured in the Oscar-winning documentary, The Elephant Whisperers.

PM Modi inaugurated a programme commemorating of 50 years of Project Tiger at Mysuru. The PM expressed happiness that India is home to 75% of the world’s tiger population in the 75th year of Indian independence. It is also a coincidence that the tiger reserves in India cover 75,000 square kilometers of land and in the past 10 to 12 years, the tiger population in the country has increased by 75 percent.
