Addressing a massive rally at Srirampur in West Bengal, on the evening of 27th April, Shri Narendra Modi strongly condemned the State government’s disregard for the welfare of its people, and criticized the Bengal Chief Minister’s disdain for the people who voted her to power. From lack of development in the State to the disruptive policies that had ruined the people, Shri Modi spoke of the decay witnessed in West Bengal and urged the people to vote for the BJP and bring the state out from the shambles.

Shri Modi condemned the past governments in West Bengal and stated how their disruptive approach had ruined the State. “Congress, Left and TMC, they are one. WB has been ruined for 40 years by these parties. Generations have been ruined,” said Shri Modi. Expressing concern over the misrule in the State, Shri Modi questioned the Bengal Chief Minister on the State government’s miserable failure in ensuring people’s progress. “Mamata Didi kahan gayi aapki Mamata. Bengal had such hopes from you but what has happened. Mamata ji people expected better. I always have high regard for you but the dreams of people of Bengal lie shattered. Mamata Ji you are doing what the Left did,” said Shri Modi.

Expressing displeasure at how scores were robbed of their hard earned money through the Sharda Chit Fund scame, Shri Modi questioned the Bengal CM and Finance Minister P Chidambaram as to whom were they aiding by trying to evade investigations into the scam. Affirming a tough stance on the perpetrators, after the BJP comes to power, Shri Modi said, “I assure those who lost money in Sharda Chit Fund Scam that after forming the government there will be tough investigation on it.”

Speaking on the Bengal CM’s fondness for art which was evident in the paintings she made, Shri Modi drew the crowd’s attention to a recent sale of one of her paintings which went for over Rs. 1 crore. He questioned the CM as to who was such a big patron of hers. In his trademark wit, Shri Modi also urged the Bengal CM to leave aside unruly politics and work for the progress of the people. Mamata ji is less worried about Bengal and more worried about her chair. Mamata ji now you are the CM and the time of Andolan has gone. Mamata ji times have changed. You cannot use police to make cases against people. This is not the right path,” said Shri Modi.

Shri Modi also came down heavily upon the divisive politics followed by the Bengal CM, and condemned her approach of despising Indians who visited West Bengal, but welcoming the Bangladeshi infiltrators. Affirming the BJP’s focus on ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, Shri Modi said that after coming to power in Delhi, the Party would ensure that infiltrators have to leave, while the localites get better and equal chances to develop.

Shri Modi also stated how the sole focus for the Congress and its allies was to stop Modi, rather than emphasizing on the development of the Nation. This fear, Shri Modi said, was because they were aware of where they would land after 16th May. He questioned the Congress that if they were ready to accept the Third Front then why were they fighting the elections. Speaking further on the unaccountability of the Congress, Shri Modi stated how they had never bothered to give a record of the work done by them in the past decade. He condemned their approach of looking down upon the poor, and said how they remembered the poor only before the Elections.

Shri Modi also highlighted the failure of the Central government in addressing issues of national importance like poverty, unemployment, corruption, price rise or farmer suicides. He cited examples of Gujarat’s innovative approaches in these domains and shared how the State had metamorphosed into an investment hub over the past decade.

Shri Modi recalled the valuable contribution of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Subhas Chandra Bose, and spoke of how West Bengal was his ‘tirthbhoomi’. He remembered Subhas Chandra Bose’ call, and said, “Subhas Babu said give me blood I will give you freedom. With folded hands I say give me your support & I will give Surajya.”

He affirmed that the Election results this time will prove all the calculations of political analysts wrong, as these Elections were not about arithmetic calculations but about the chemistry of 125 crore Indians. He urged the people to vote for the BJP and enable the formation of a Central government that would focus on people’s empowerment and the Nation’s progress.
